ABOUT OUR KARATE CLUB
The Shotokan Karate Club of Maryland (SKCM) has been teaching karate in the Baltimore area since 1967. Our family friendly dojo has received many awards over the years, including “Best of Baltimore for Children” in 1999 and “the best dojo” at a regional competition in 2019. Many of our youth and adult members are active in local, national, and international tournaments. Several of our members are on the ISKF USA Team, and have had tremendous success in recent tournaments. Our club’s mission is to improve the character of its members and instructors. After each class, members recite the Dojo Kun (dojo rules): Seek perfection of character, Be faithful, Endeavor, Respect others, and Refrain from violent behavior.

Why SKCM? We are a registered 501(c)(3) [non-profit] club operating for the sole purpose of teaching the art of karate for students who want to learn. We charge dues to pay our rent for the facilities, and we do not have any hidden fees or contracts. We are members of the ISKF, an international karate organization with over 90 affiliate countries that has been in existence since 1977. We are passionate about Shotokan karate and its many benefits, and we want to share it with others. The many students who have come through our doors feel that our dojo is a special place. Sometimes these members do not continue their martial arts training, but they always come back to visit, because it feels like “home.”
